October 17, 1777 marks an important date in our history-it is the date that the British forces surrendered to the Americans. General Burgoyne retreated to Saratoga (now Schuylerville) and surrendered his entire army. It was a great turning point of the war, because it won for Americans the foreign assistance which was the last element needed for vistory.
